"Achtung": ahck-tohng OR ahck-toong which is Deutsche (german) word meaning "attention", "warning" or "alert"
What's with all the World War II German military uniform sets being previewed lately? There was the Pop Toys WWII German Black Officer's dress suit (both for male and female) and also the Pop Toys WWII German Woman Officer's uniform version 2.0 just before that (see pictures HERE). Now Toys City is also offering their version of a German Officer's uniform as well.
Toys City 1/6 scale Waffen-SS Officer's Black Service Uniform Set (Item No.:TC-62019) will come with Officer's Black Service Uniform of Waffen-SS, Allgemeine-SS General Officer's Visor Cap, White Shirt, Black Tie of SS, Officer's Black Leather Jack boots, Officer's Black Leather Belt with Diagonal Band, PPK Pistol with Holster, SS M33 Honor Dagger, Swastika Armband, Adolf Hitler cuff title, Honor Chevron, Two Medals, Collar Badge of SS-Sturmbannfuhrer, Collar Badge of SS-Oberfuhrer. Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures
To quote from a very good friend and fellow collector Ted Menten: I had to laugh at your post today. These companies do everything possible to make uniforms authentic and then put them on a figure that is historically incorrect. No officer (German or otherwise) would have had beard stubble -- EVER. That style of trimmed stubble is strictly 21st century. In the 1940s everyone was clean shaven. Many solders with black hair and dark beards were forced to shave twice a day to maintain the clean face look. Beard stubble only occurred in men during battle. Or, possibly in a situation depicted in THE GREAT ESCAPE where it was punishment.
I really was amused by the updated history in CAPTAIN AMERICA where the soldiers were depicted as racially mixed. In WW2 the armed forces were segregated. I guess Captain America is mythical so it is OK to be a bit modern and politically correct.
Ted's right :) This just goes to show how people take history very lightly and how ignorant the 1/6 scale manufacturers are when it comes to World War II. These are made in CHINA after all :p
Regarding inaccuracies with Captain America: First Avenger, it isn't the first time this has happened. The 2000 film "U571" directed by Jonathan Mostow, and starring Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton, Harvey Keitel, Thomas Kretschmann, Jon Bon Jovi, Jack Noseworthy, Will Estes, and Tom Guiry had a World War II German submarine being boarded in 1942 by disguised United States Navy submariners seeking to capture her Enigma cipher machine. The fictitious plot attracted substantial criticism since, in reality, it was British personnel from HMS Bulldog who first captured a naval Enigma machine (from U-110 in the North Atlantic in May 1941), long before the United States entered the war. The anger over the inaccuracies even reached the British Parliament, where Prime Minister Tony Blair stated that the film was an "affront" to British sailors.
The real U-571 was never involved in any such events, was not captured, and was in fact sunk in January 1944, off Ireland, by a Short Sunderland flying boat from No. 461 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force.
If you believed that the film U-571 is true, then you'll also believe that the events that occurred in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" where Lieutenant Aldo Raine's Jewish-American soldiers managed to riddle Hitler, Goebbels, and the trapped crowd of mostly German top officials with machine-gun fire, until the bombs go off and destroy the cinema is true as well.
