Toys City 1/6 scale World War II German camouflage sets – Italian, Autumn, oak-leaf etc

Military camouflage is part of the art of military deception. The main objective of military camouflage is to deceive the enemy as to the presence, position and intentions of military formations. Camouflage techniques include concealment, disguise, and dummies, applied to troops, vehicles, and positions.

I think among all the combat forces fighting in World War II, the German military probably has the most types of camouflage patterns than any of the other armies. The role of uniform is not only to hide each soldier, but also to identify friend from foe. Issue of the "Frogskin" uniforms to US troops in Europe during the Second World War was halted as it was too often mistaken for the German Waffen-SS uniform.

Toys City will be releasing up to five different WWII German camouflage patterns soon. They include the 1/6 scale World War II German Italian camouflage set. The set will come with Italian camouflage field cap, Italian camouflage field uniform, Italian camouflage field pants, Leggings, Black shirt, Officer's brown belt, Binoculars, Black boots, P38 pistol, Brown holster, Knight's cross of iron.

Scroll down to see the rest of the uniforms.

Another set will be the Toys City 1/6 scale World War II German Spring blurred edge camouflage set which will come with Spring blurred edge camouflage field cap, Spring blurred edge camouflage field uniform, Spring blurred edge camouflage field pants, Leggings, Black shirt, SS officer's black belt, Binoculars, Black boots, P38 pistol, Black holster, Knight's cross of iron

A third set will be the Toys City 1/6 scale World War II German Autumn blurred edge camouflage set with Autumn blurred edge camouflage cap, Autumn blurred edge camouflage uniform, Autumn blurred edge camouflage field pants, Leggings, Black sweater, SS officer's black belt, Binoculars, Black boots, P38 pistol, Black holster, Knight's cross of iron

The fourth set is the Toys City 1/6 scale World War II German Autumn oak-leaf camouflage set which will include Autumn oak-leaf camouflage cap, Autumn oak-leaf camouflage uniform, Autumn oak-leaf camouflage pants, Leggings, Black sweater, SS officer's black belt, Binoculars, Black boots, P38 pistol, Black holster, Knight's cross of iron

Last but not least, there will also be the Toys City 1/6 scale World War II German Wehrmacht camouflage set with Wehrmacht camouflage cap, Wehrmacht camouflage uniform, Wehrmacht camouflage pants, Leggings, Gray shirt, Officer's brown belt, Binoculars, Black boots, P38 pistol, Brown holster, Knight's cross of iron

Fancy a ride in a ZY Toys 1/6 scale WWII U.S. Army Military Motorcycle? Harley-Davidson?

Back in the early 1940s, the US Army asked Harley-Davidson to design a next-generation military motorcycle although the company was already producing the WLA, based on its traditional 45-degree V-twin engine. The army ordered a test batch of 1,000 XAs from Harley-Davidson. At the same time, the military also asked Indian to make a 750cc shaft-drive twin, and it came up with a 90-degree V-twin design. The idea was to put both new machines through their paces, and award a lucrative military contract to the winner.

Eventually, the army finished its testing, and decided that neither new bike would be built. Instead, they bought several thousand more Harley WLAs.

This is the soon-to-be-released (ETA February 2014) 1/6 scale WWII U.S. Army Military Motorcycle by ZY Toys made for 12-inch figures. It is quite nicely detailed with a number of moving parts. Great for pairing with your Hot Toys Captain America: First Avenger collectible figure (reviewed HERE, HERE and HERE) or for use with World War II U.S. Army 12-inch figures. Rare Hasbro GI Joe Classic Collection 12" Tom Hanks Saving Private Ryan Figure US$11,999.99

Produced in 1999, this rare Hasbro 12" Tom Hanks Saving Private Ryan GI Joe was pulled from production after Dreamworks decided that a for sale collectible was not in tune with the seriousness of their movie Saving Private Ryan. About a dozen Tom Hanks GI Joe Prototypes In Boxes were sent to Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks. Only a couple hundred more were handed out as a special gift during a private screening of Saving Private Ryan to guests in 1999. That's it. All others were destroyed. This Tom Hanks GI Joe was never available retail. Item comes with Hasbro Original Certificate of Authenticity.

This Rare Hasbro GI Joe Classic Collection 12" Tom Hanks Saving Private Ryan Figure is now going for US$11,999.99 on ebay right now! You can check on the link HERE

I think that's a crazy price to ask for a rather modern G.I. Joe figure. I actually have this figure which I bought years ago from the flea market as a loose naked figure. I then dressed him up with the G.I. Joe Collectors' Club Limited Edition Second World War Normandy Ranger uniform and accessories. You can check out my toy blog post titled "G.I. Joe Saving Private Ryan Tom Hanks Figure" HERE. I only don't have the box. So does that make me US$11,999 richer? Haha

Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures. Click on them for bigger and better views.

The inside flap has a short description of D-Day, June 6th, 1944.

Here's a peek at the figure in the box. G.I. Joe figures were made for children to play with, hence the plastic molded weapons and accessories. The uniforms were not historically accurate but close enough for a child to recognize and accept. In this day and age, 1/6 scale companies and manufacturers other than Hasbro have been producing and releasing 12-inch military figures that have all the intricate details and accurately produced uniforms and weapons plus gear and accessories that make the figures look historically correct and are good enough to be displayed in a museum as replicas of the real thing.

Check out the DID WWII US Army 2nd Ranger Battalion - Normandy June 6, 1944 1/6 scale Captain "Millers" collectible figure which was reviewed HERE, HERE and HERE for a much better looking and highly accurate Tom Hanks as seen in Saving Private Ryan

You can see the poorer standard and low quality of the Hasbro G.I. Joe accessories from the picture below. These were made as toy for children to play with. How can this be worth US$11,999.99? Most serious adult military collectors won't even go near a G.I. Joe figure, let alone pay so much for these.

Saving Private Ryan was a GREAT World War II movie and one of those MUST see films for everyone, military and non-military buffs and this figure is fine as a keepsake but to ask for US$11,999.99 is outrageous.

So what if it has a certificate of authenticity? That makes it okay to ask for US$11,999.99? No one should be stupid enough to cough out that kind of moolah for this kind of collectible.

To quote from a very good friend and fellow collector Ted Menten: I had to laugh at your post today. These companies do everything possible to make uniforms authentic and then put them on a figure that is historically incorrect. No officer (German or otherwise) would have had beard stubble -- EVER. That style of trimmed stubble is strictly 21st century. In the 1940s everyone was clean shaven. Many solders with black hair and dark beards were forced to shave twice a day to maintain the clean face look. Beard stubble only occurred in men during battle. Or, possibly in a situation depicted in THE GREAT ESCAPE where it was punishment.

I really was amused by the updated history in CAPTAIN AMERICA where the soldiers were depicted as racially mixed. In WW2 the armed forces were segregated. I guess Captain America is mythical so it is OK to be a bit modern and politically correct.

Ted's right :) This just goes to show how people take history very lightly and how ignorant the 1/6 scale manufacturers are when it comes to World War II. These are made in CHINA after all :p

Regarding inaccuracies with Captain America: First Avenger, it isn't the first time this has happened. The 2000 film "U571" directed by Jonathan Mostow, and starring Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton, Harvey Keitel, Thomas Kretschmann, Jon Bon Jovi, Jack Noseworthy, Will Estes, and Tom Guiry had a World War II German submarine being boarded in 1942 by disguised United States Navy submariners seeking to capture her Enigma cipher machine. The fictitious plot attracted substantial criticism since, in reality, it was British personnel from HMS Bulldog who first captured a naval Enigma machine (from U-110 in the North Atlantic in May 1941), long before the United States entered the war. The anger over the inaccuracies even reached the British Parliament, where Prime Minister Tony Blair stated that the film was an "affront" to British sailors.

The real U-571 was never involved in any such events, was not captured, and was in fact sunk in January 1944, off Ireland, by a Short Sunderland flying boat from No. 461 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force.

If you believed that the film U-571 is true, then you'll also believe that the events that occurred in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" where Lieutenant Aldo Raine's Jewish-American soldiers managed to riddle Hitler, Goebbels, and the trapped crowd of mostly German top officials with machine-gun fire, until the bombs go off and destroy the cinema is true as well.
