Review: Marvel Comics Hawkeye 1/6th scale Costume and Equipment set for Captain Action

continued from previous post...

This is the Captain Action 1/6 scale The Avengers Hawkeye costume set from the Assemble-an-Avenger promotion that is possible if you have all six of the Round 2 Captain Action costume sets consisting of the Captain Action Spider Man Deluxe Uniform Set (posted in my toy blog HERE and HERE), Captain Action Captain America Deluxe Uniform Set (reviewed HERE, HERE and HERE), Captain Action Thor Deluxe Uniform Set, Captain Action Loki Deluxe Uniform Set (Thor and Loki briefly covered HERE), Captain Action Wolverine Basic Uniform Set (see my review HERE) and Captain Action Iron Man Basic Uniform Set (reviewed earlier HERE and HERE).

The Captain Action 1/6 scale Hawkeye costume set is put on a 12-inch Hot Toys TrueType figure (muscular body type) with a 1/6 scale Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton head sculpt. These Captain Action costume sets are designed for the new Captain Action figure but since I don't have any Captain Action figure, I had to use what was available. After all, these costume sets are designed for 12-inch figures.

Hawkeye (Clint Barton) is a fictional character and comic book superhero who appears in publications by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Don Heck, the character first appeared as a villain in Tales of Suspense #57 (Sept. 1964) and later joined the Avengers in Avengers #16 (May 1965). He has been a prominent member of the team ever since. Hawkeye is portrayed by Jeremy Renner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a shared fictional universe that is the setting of films produced by Marvel Studios. Renner first made an uncredited cameo appearance as Hawkeye in Thor (2011) and later reprised the role in The Avengers (2012) and The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).

I thought it would be interesting to see how Jeremy Renner looks wearing the Hawkeye costume from the comics ;p I did the same with 1/6 scale Chris Evans as Steve Rogers in Classic Captain America costume (posted HERE) and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the classic yellow & blue costume as seen originally in the Marvel comics (pictures HERE). I intend to do the same with Thor and Loki since I have both of their head sculpts (posted earlier HERE).

Hawkeye was introduced as a reluctant villain in Tales of Suspense #57 (September 1964). After two more appearances as a villain in Tales of Suspense #60 and #64 (December 1964 and April 1965), Hawkeye joined the ranks of the Avengers in Avengers Vol.1 #16 (May 1965).

While Hawkeye has no superhuman powers, he is at the very peak of human conditioning; he is an exceptional fencer, acrobat and a grandmaster marksman, having been trained from childhood in the circus and by the criminals Trick Shot and Swordsman.

Hawkeye has also been thoroughly trained by Captain America in tactics, martial arts, and hand-to-hand combat. Hawkeye excels in the use of ranged weapons, especially the bow and arrow, and carries a quiver containing a number of customized "trick arrows".

And here's a picture of the Hawkeye mask for Captain Action

Check out the pictures below of the full 1/6 scale Hawkeye costume intended for the Captain Action 12-inch figure

Captain Action Hawkeye comes with three arrows in his quiver. Hawkeye is famous for his customized "trick arrows"

But the best part is, out of the three arrows featured, one of them has Ant-Man holding on to the arrow head ;p That's a nice touch.

More Captain Action 1/6th scale Marvel Comics Classic Red and Gold Iron Man 12" Action Figure

continued from previous post...

This is the Round 2 Marvel Comics Iron Man 1/6 scale Uniform / Superhero Costume and Equipment set for Captain Action in a flying pose or power pose ;p For only US$19.99, this Iron Man 12-inch figure certainly impresses, especially if you grew up with Iron Man from the Marvel comic books like me. The Captain Action 1/6 scale costume set for Iron Man comes with: cloth Iron Man costume, Iron Man helmet and face plate (made of hard plastic), front and back armor (made of hard plastic), boots, belt (with energy pods), gloves and bonus Hawkeye arm and wrist bands (made of rubber).

This Captain Action Marvel Comics Iron Man 1/6 scale Uniform / Superhero Costume and Equipment set for 12-inch figures certainly has more parts than Wolverine (seen earlier HERE) and makes for a FUN toy action figure, much like the Mego figures of yesteryear (last century) and the more recent Famous Covers Iron Man (posted HERE). The costume set does not come with a figure but since it is made for 12-inch figures, it isn't too difficult to find a figure to put the Iron Man costume on. Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures of this Marvel Comics Classic Red and Gold Iron Man 12-inch Action Figure in a "power pose" haha

The original Captain Action was an action figure created in 1966, equipped with a wardrobe of costumes allowing him to become Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Captain America, Aquaman, the Phantom, The Lone Ranger (and Tonto), Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Sgt. Fury, Steve Canyon, and the Green Hornet. Captain Action was the Ideal Toy Company's answer to Hasbro's G.I. Joe—although the protagonist dolls of both toy lines were created and designed by the same toy-and-idea man, Stan Weston. (source: wiki)

Though Captain Action was produced for only two and a half years, the characters and accessories have become amongst the most fondly remembered, and expensive to obtain on the collector's market, action figures of the era. After 30 years off the market, Captain Action was revived in 1998, by retro toy company Playing Mantis.

In addition to Captain Action and Dr. Evil (pictures HERE), costumes released boxed with Captain Action figure were The Lone Ranger (in red and black outfit), Tonto (posted HERE), Flash Gordon, his never-before-made nemesis Ming the Merciless (with a new flesh-tone Dr. Evil figure) - check out the post of both of them HERE, The Green Hornet (pictures HERE), and his never-before-made sidekick Kato (reviewed HERE. Both are also pictured HERE with new revised / improved looks HERE). The line met with lackluster sales, and carded costumes-only were issued separately: Green Hornet, Kato, Lone Ranger (in blue outfit), Tonto, The Phantom (posted HERE), and his never-before-made enemy Kabai Singh (pictures HERE). Also revived was Action Boy (now called Kid Action - pictures HERE, due to Hasbro owning the rights to the name Action Man) and retro long box packaging for Captain Action and Dr. Evil. Unfortunately, the second coming of Captain Action ended in 2000.

Since 2005 Captain Action Enterprises holds the licensing rights and has been producing an array of new merchandize, including statues, toys, comics, trading cards, collectibles and apparel. In March 2011, Round 2 Corp. and Captain Action Enterprises announced plans for a redesigned 1/6 scale Captain Action figure.

The boots have etchings for the jets that propel Iron Man in flight

And with the newly redesigned Captain Action 12-inch figure came the 1/6 scale costume sets. There's the Captain Action Spider Man Deluxe Uniform Set (posted in my toy blog HERE and HERE), Captain Action Captain America Deluxe Uniform Set (reviewed HERE, HERE and HERE), Captain Action Thor Deluxe Uniform Set, Captain Action Loki Deluxe Uniform Set (Thor and Loki briefly covered HERE), Captain Action Wolverine Basic Uniform Set (see my review HERE) and Captain Action Iron Man Basic Uniform Set (reviewed previously HERE and in this post as well). All six costume sets contain parts of the Captain Action Hawkeye costume set and once completed, you can assemble the avenger for the seventh figure

Plans are also on the way for more 1/6 scale Captain Action superhero costume sets including Superman, Brainiac, Batman and the Joker. You can check out the Captain Action facebook page HERE. Exciting news indeed!

For now, let's just appreciate what we have - which is this nicely done Captain Action 1/6th scale Marvel Comics Classic Red and Gold Iron Man costume set.

Although the left hand of this Captain Action Iron Man is set in the permanent pose of firing his repulsors, I wouldn't want it any other way :)

It makes for some nice dramatic poses

Love this particular angle - the view from below (looking up) shot

Marvel Comics Iron Man 1/6 scale Uniform / Costume and Equipment set for Captain Action

continued from previous post...

This is the Round 2 Captain Action Iron Man Basic Outfit Set so that fans and collectors can outfit their Captain Action figure with this all new classic Iron Man costume set, based on the 60's and 70's version of Tony Stark's Armored Avenger. This Marvel Comics Iron Man 1/6 scale Uniform / Costume and Equipment set for Captain Action includes a mask, boots, gloves, chest plate, belt and energy pods. Fabric elements complete Iron Man's classic look.

And the new basic version still includes the Assemble-An-Avenger promotional pieces - Hawkeye's wrist bands and arm bands! Long-time fans will remember Hawkeye first appeared as an Iron Man villain.

This is how I remember Iron Man :) Not the souped up Marvel Studios version made for the movies with Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark which has been GREAT and have converted many people into Iron Man fans but this classic red and yellow look was what I grew up with, back when Iron Man was mostly confined to the comic books and where I spent most of my leisure time. Before Iron Man ever made it onto the big screen, this was the Iron Man I was most familiar with and could vouch for. There weren't that many versions of armor suits because back then, the maxim was "why fix something that wasn't broken?" Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures of this Marvel Comics Iron Man 1/6 scale Uniform / Costume and Equipment set for Captain Action.

The box packaging is similar to Wolverine's (see previous post) with a window display that shows off the armor suit, mask, gloves and boots. On the back of the box is a short description: Captain Action is the original superhero action figure and the master of disguise. With a change into custom armor, Captain Action becomes the Iron Man!

Inventor, businessman, superhero! Billionaire genius Tony Stark saved his own life by designing a life-sustaining hi-tech armor that transformed him into the Iron Man! Constantly improving his various armor to combat new adversaries, Tony Stark demonstrates that he is the penultimate man of science and technology. This 1/6 scale armor and costume set transforms Captain Action into one of the founding members of the Avengers, the invincible Iron Man!

The Captain Action 1/6 scale costume set for Iron Man includes: cloth Iron Man costume, Iron Man helmet and face plate, front and back armor, boots, belt (with energy pods), gloves and bonus Hawkeye arm and wrist bands.

The Round 2 Marvel Comics Iron Man 1/6 scale Uniform / Costume and Equipment set for Captain Action comes with two gloved "armor" hands (gauntlets), with the left hand set to fire his repulsor rays. The repulsors originated as a hand attachment, but have since become the armor's most important standard armament. They have been referred to as being magnetic, a blast of charged particles, and as a force beam.

In the 2008 "Iron Man" movie, the repulsors are a form of propulsion and (as hand units) steering jet, though they can be used offensively.

Besides the cloth Iron Man costume, this Captain Action Iron Man costume set also comes with Iron Man helmet and face plate (made of hard plastic), front and back armor (made of hard plastic). The gauntlets, boots and belt with energy pods are made of rubber.

This classic red and gold (yellow) armor suit was the armor of the 1970s and considered to be the Iron Man Armor MK V. The armor used solar power and integrated micro-circuitry. Repulsors were standard weaponry.

This is how the Round 2 Marvel Comics Iron Man 1/6 scale Uniform / Costume and Equipment set for Captain Action would look if placed in a standing pose. Because the left gloved hand (gauntlet) is set to fire the repulsor rays, Iron Man looks a little odd when posed in a standing position.

Overall, I really like this Captain Action 1/6 scale Iron Man costume set (all for just US$19.99). It's a throw back to the 1970s and brings back lots of memories of vintage Iron Man, a time when comics were a great getaway and stories were less complex with no crossovers, one of many gimmicks thought up later to drum up sales.

Marvel Comics Wolverine 1/6 scale Uniform / Costume and Equipment set for Captain Action

From the Fox (see my previous post of the Foxbox Studio God Complex: Inari 12-inch figure) to the Wolverine

This is the Captain Action 1/6 scale Wolverine Basic Outfit set for 12-inch figures by Round 2. SNIKT! Get ready for ferocious action with this classic Wolverine Costume set for Captain Action. The mutant X-Men character comes alive with mask, boots, gloves with claws, belt and the classic yellow & blue costume. The snarling scowl of the mask perfectly captures that early Wolverine "Best there is at what I do" attitude.

Avenger fans won't want to miss the Hawkeye mask included as the final element of the Assemble-An-Avenger promotion. Sculpted by Tim Bruckner, it brings that classic Kirby / Heck look to life! (text from Cotswold)

If you ever wondered how Hugh Jackman would look as Wolverine in the classic yellow & blue costume as seen originally in the Marvel comics, this toy blog post hopes to give you an answer :) I always wanted to see Hugh Jackman wearing the signature yellow spandex body suit highlighted with tiger stripes, blue gloves, trunks, shoulder pads and winged-boots with a red belt (This classic Wolverine costume would serve as the basis for most of Wolverine's future costumes). Now I know, all thanks to this Marvel Comics Wolverine 1/6 scale Uniform and Equipment set for Captain Action by Round 2! Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures :)

The packaging is nice. Its open display shows off the 1/6 scale Wolverine costume / outfit / uniform and equipment clearly, including the Hawkeye mask which is part of the final element of the Assemble-An-Avenger promotion. I like the Wolverine art drawn by John Bryne on the cover, especially since my first exposure to Wolverine and the new X-Men was through his art. It was love at first sight haha

The short description at the back of the box reads: Captain Action is the original superhero action figure and the master of disguise. Donning a costume of yellow and blue, the good Captain becomes the savage Wolverine! A mutant possessing heightened physical capabilities, animal-keen senses, and a healing factor that allows him to recover from virtually any wound. Additionally, the metal alloy, adamantium, has been grafted to his skeleton and is most evident in a set of metal claws in each hand that he can unleash with terrifying efficiency.

This 1/6 scale costume set, transforms Captain Action into the man who is the "best at what he does, and what he does is not pretty", Wolverine! The Captain Action costume set for Wolverine includes: cloth Wolverine costume, Wolverine mask, boots, belt, gloves with claws extended and bonus Hawkeye mask.

Check out the turnaround views of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine wearing the classic yellow and blue costume. The 1/6 scale Marvel Comics Wolverine costume is put onto a Hot Toys 12-inch TrueType Muscular body which was reviewed earlier HERE with the head switched to the 1/6 scale Hugh Jackman Wolverine head sculpt I found at the flea market recently (posted HERE wearing the "X-Men: The Last Stand" superhero costume / outfit)

The Round 2 Marvel Comics Wolverine 1/6 scale Uniform / Costume for Captain Action is nicely stitched with good details and fits the 12-inch figure body very well. The winged boots and gloves with claws are well done too. Not bad at all for something that only costs US$19.99 (you can check out the sites listed below to order)

Wolverine's original costume was seen in his first appearance in INCREDIBLE HULK #181 (1974) — a memorable three-way throw-down with the Hulk and Wendigo. Designed by John Romita Sr., the yellow and blue colors were chosen because it presented a new combination in comics. This costume also featured Logan's controversial "whiskers" mask, which contained thin lines above the mouth and very short "wings" above the cowl. Fun fact: Wolverine would not retract his adamantium claws even once during his first appearance, making the later reveal that his claws were a part of him and not his gloves all the more surprising.

When the decision to place Wolverine in the X-Men in GIANT SIZE X-MEN #1 came about, his original mask came as part of the package — an accident helped define his iconic look. After interior artist Dave Cockrum completed the issue, cover artist Gil Kane drew the new X-Man's mask with longer wings, colored black from the top down to his jaw line — eliminating the whiskers in the process — and filled the eye-holes with an eerie white. Cockrum loved the changes so much, he went back and redrew the mask throughout the entire issue, panel-by-panel. Over time, the redesigned mask combined with the blue and yellow bodysuit has become perhaps the character's most well-known look.

Wolverine's hands do not have openings for the claws to move through: they cut through his flesh every time he extrudes them, with occasional references implying that he feels a brief moment of slight pain in his hands when he unsheathes them. In the comics, Wolverine's claws came out from the top of his hand, as seen in the pictures here with the claws unleashed with his gloves on. In the movies, they come out in-between the knuckles.

Here's another look at Wolverine without his mask on

And this is supposed to be Captain Action wearing the Wolverine mask. Since I don't have a Captain Action figure, I just used the Hot Toys 12-inch TrueType Muscular body instead.
