Subway 1:6 scale SURVIVOR is yet another Will Smith "I am Legend" Robert Neville 12-inch figure

"I Am Legend" is a 2007 post-apocalyptic science fiction action film that stars Will Smith as an Army doctor who struggles to find a cure to the virus that has affected nearly the entire population of the world. Will Smith plays virologist Robert Neville, who is immune to a man-made virus originally created to cure cancer. He works to create a remedy while defending himself against the mutated creatures created by the virus. [source: wiki]

Many companies have had a go at this genre and this particular character. The most recent release was by MC Toys featuring their 1/6 scale Trialmaster Leather Jacket suit set. You can check out my review HERE

This is an upcoming release by Subway and their 1:6 scale SURVIVOR 12-inch figure will come with Realistic head sculpt, 12-inch figure Body, Sunglasses, Leather jacket, Black shirt, Cargo pants, Hiking boots. Weapons include M4 carbine with ACOG optical sight and Tactical light, M9 pistol, M67 fragmentation grenade. Also comes with Messenger bag and German shepherd. Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures :)

Just how many 1/6th scale Will Smith 12-inch figures are out there? Just this year alone, EnterBay and Dragon Models (DML) have both released Will Smith as Agent J 12-inch figures. See pictures of EnterBay's MIB3 Agent J figure HERE and my review of DML's Agent J in two earlier posts (HERE and HERE). Will Smith also impressed with his movie debut as CPT Steven Hiller, F16 Pilot in the movie "Independence Day (1996)". Hot Toys actually released a 1/6th scale Will Smith as Captain Steven Hiller figure way back - see pictures HERE. There is also a DML Will Smith as Police Detective Mike Lowrey from "Bad Boys II (2003)" - see pictures. That makes four Will Smith 12-inch figures. Other Will Smith head sculpts include one released by Loading Toys some time ago and another by Dr Figures (check out my review HERE)

Preview Art Figure 1/6 scale FBI Biochemical Weapons Expert 12-inch Nicolas Cage figure

The Rock is a 1996 action film that primarily takes place on Alcatraz Island and in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was directed by Michael Bay, director of Bad Boys, and stars Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage and Ed Harris. Nicolas Cage plays Dr. Stanley Goodspeed, FBI Special Agent. Goodspeed's job is to diffuse the stolen VX gas-armed rockets as fast as possible before the rogue US Force Recon Marines can launch them against the population of San Francisco.

This will be the latest release from Art Figure: AF-014 which is a 1/6 scale FBI Biochemical Weapons Expert 12-inch figure with authentic likeness of Nicolas Cage head sculpt, 12-inch figure body, Black T shirt, Combat Uniform, OMEGA EOD Vest, White Underpants, Backpack, OMEGA Pistol Holster, Tactical Gloves, XM177 rifle with Magazine x 6, Tactical Weapon light, M9 pistol with surefire tactical light, Magazine x 2, screwdriver, Combat boots, Biochemical weapon.

For a film that came out in 1996, they certainly took their time in releasing this.

Loading Toys had released a SEAL Team uniform boxed set which is quite similar to this upcoming release but was very basic in terms of gear. You can check out my toy blog post HERE for the review and pictures

I had used the earlier released Loading Toys SEAL Team set to kitbash a 1:6 scale Sean Connery as John Mason from The Rock - lots of pictures HERE

Close-up pictures of the Art Figure 1/6 scale Nicolas Cage as Doctor Stanley Goodspeed head sculpt.

This will make a great companion piece with Art Figures AF011 1/6 scale Nave SEALS team VI 12-inch Sean Connery figure from The Rock (previewed earlier HERE)

The bonus has to be the 1/6 scale Biochemical Weapon which is a stolen VX gas-armed rocket

The rocket can be dismantled

And the VX gas can be removed, just like in the movie

More pictures showing differences in articulation of 12-inch figures: Alpha/TrueType, X-Series etc

continued from previous post...

I've already shown comparison pictures of the various 12-inch figure body types in the previous post. Here are some more pictures to show how much better the articulation is on the X-Series 12-inch figure body compared to other brands such as Alpha Toys B001 Narrow Shoulders Bodies which are exact copies of Hot Toys TrueType TTM bodies, only cheaper AND Kaustic Plastik muscle bodies which represent the more muscular built body types that are also available in the 1/6 scale market.

As you can see, the way the X-Series 12-inch figure bodies are designed allow them to adopt some very nice and dramatic poses other 1/6 scale bodies cannot achieve. I like to show off the bodies by making them demonstrate a high flying jumping knee muay thai style because everything has to be compact and tight. Only the X-Series 12-inch figure bodies are able to achieve this pose

Whichever knee doesn't really matter. X-Series performed just fine :)

This is how the Alpha Toys B001 Narrow Shoulders Bodies which are exact copies of Hot Toys TrueType TTM bodies fare in the same pose. The knee cannot go as high and the body cannot bend as much as the X-Series

Muscle bodies fare much worse. Their bulkiness makes them too stiff

Here's another picture from a different angle showing off the X-Series 12-inch figure body from the side, with comparison pictures of the Alpha / TrueType body as well as the Kaustic Plastik muscle body. Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures

The elbows and knees bend much better when they are double-jointed but the torso and hips lose out in the case of the Alpha Toys B001 Narrow Shoulders Bodies / Hot Toys TrueType TTM bodies

Muscular bodies usually have forearms that can only bend 90 degrees. You can't really get dynamic poses with only 90 degree bends. That's the compromise for realism or realistic looking upper torsos and arms. You lose a lot of the articulation.

This side profile picture shows very clearly how much bend you can get from the X-series 12-inch Bodies

Compared to the Alpha Toys B001 Narrow Shoulders Bodies / Hot Toys TrueType TTM bodies

On a side note, I much prefer the clear figure display stands as opposed to the black ones because the clear ones give the impression / illusion of height. See my toy blog post HERE on the different type of stands available

More comparison pictures showing the three different type of 12-inch figure bodies available in the 1/6 scale market and what kind of articulation you can get out of each of them

The clear winner in terms of articulation is the X-Series 12-inch figure body compared to other brands such as Alpha Toys B001 Narrow Shoulders Bodies which are exact copies of Hot Toys TrueType TTM bodies, only cheaper AND Kaustic Plastik muscle bodies which represent the more muscular built body types

Here's a view from the back showing the three-part torso of the X-Series 12-inch figure body
