Review II: Hot Toys The Expendables 2 Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) shows his tattoo body

continued from previous post...

Hot Toys MMS194 1/6th scale Expendables 2 Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross 12-inch Collectible Figure comes with the True Type Muscular body with over 30 points of articulations and Body tattoos on chest, arms and back. These will be covered up by most because he's much nicer displayed with his full outfit and gear on so this toy blog post is dedicated to the artist who bothered to paint the tattoos on Barney Ross' 12-inch figure body. I also wanted Barney's tattooed body archived because after this post, we won't be seeing it any more. I think it's a nice touch that Hot Toys bothered with the tattoos even though they know that it will be covered up.

I had covered the box packaging and contents in the previous post HERE and am most glad that I got this later version of Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross i.e. the Expendables 2 version rather than the first version because looking at pictures of the two, this one looks like it's a DX (DeluXe) version with more details and accessories. Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures :)

Two of the right hands (out of the four included) have Barney wearing his ring. Nice details for something so small

Check out the turnaround views of this Hot Toys MMS194 1/6th scale Expendables 2 Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross 12-inch Collectible Figure with his upper body exposed and showing off his tattoos

This is the larger muscled body that Hot Toys has been using for their more bulked up and beefy characters - think Arnold Swarzennegger. It looks good when fitted with tight fitting shirts and gives the figure a more impressive look but it does have its cons, in that the muscular body has less articulation in the torso and elbows.

I believe Sylvester Stallone chose the name Barney Ross in tribute to the American professional boxer, Barney Ross (born Dov-Ber "Beryl" David Rosofsky; December 23, 1909 – January 17, 1967), who became a world champion in three weight divisions and was a decorated veteran of World War II. Sly himself gained worldwide fame with his starring role in the smash hit Rocky (1976), playing a boxer named Rocky Balboa, an enforcer for a loan shark by day and a semi-pro boxer by night who is given the chance at the heavyweight title.

Close-up views / shots of Hot Toys The Expendables 2 1/6 scale Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) figure

The boots Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) wears are not your usual standard combat boots. He did wear combat boots in the first film and the first Barney Ross figure released came with combat boots but these look more like boxing shoes as the laces go almost all the way to the front where the toes are plus these boots also have the double buckle fastener at the top.

The pictures below show close-up views of the tattoos that Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) has in the Expendables films

Sylvester Stallone has got elaborate short-sleeve tattoos in real-life and these are featured in the movie as well, no need for CGI here haha

Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) also has a tattoo of a crow standing on a skull on his back. It is essentially the Expendables emblem / logo and is found in other places as well, such as on his pistol grips (see my previous post), black beret and belt buckle

The tattoos Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross have are very elaborate and intricate

I also like the hands. They are not your usual bare hands although two are included for when he is in casual wear / attire. They are unique to Barney as he wears fingerless gloves on his right hand and special custom-made straps on his left hand.

Another look at the special boots worn by Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) in Expendables 2 and replicated very nicely in 1/6 scale by Hot Toys

Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) has a holster for his customized Colt .45 Single Action Army revolver a.k.a. Peacemaker or Frontiersman) on his back

Even this later version Hot Toys Barney Ross has a nicer belt than its predecessor. The Expendables Barney Ross only had one belt and it was just a simple standard black leather-like belt. This Expendables 2 Barney Ross comes with a belt for his black pants and an additional belt for his pistol holsters. The belt comes with a nice metal-looking buckle with the Expendables emblem on it - very cool
