Pre-Order Ax2 Studio's Inu and Saru series 1/6 scale Yojimbo Shusuke 12-inch action figure

"I shall killeth those who dareth toucheth mineth mast'r!"
Shusuke/ Yojimbo from the tribe of Saru

Yojimbo is my job. The members of Inu teased me, saying what I do is reminiscent of a watchdog that guards the entrance of Saru, but I pay them no heed. My life belongs to my mast'r. A grateful dog is no doubt far nobler than those crude, thankless goshi.

YOJIMBO means bodyguards, the job is usually taken by the more destitute rank of Samurai, such as the Ronin. Yet the attire of a Saru sergeant ought to be glamorous, so even a mere bodyguard's garments would appear more extravagant than that of usual corporals. The Saru people do not tolerate any dishevelment in clothing - a set of elegant, organized attire represents the frontage of the entire Saru clan. GOSHI means the lowest rank of samurai.

Teaser images of Ax2 Studio next project: 1:6 scale INU & SARU Series Yojimbo 12-inch figure

Backstory:
The two rivaling samurai families - the tribe of Inu and the tribe of Saru, have been at war with each other for the longest period of time, for both parties are determined to conquer the world.

In one single critical battle, the Saru tribe had defeated the Inu tribe, taking over control of the entire continent. In the country ruled by the Saru, the Inu people are marked as the lowest-ranking samurais, while the fighters with the Saru bloodline could serve in the government while being bestowed with the Royal, highest-ranked samurai title - the Joshi. The story entails a group of lowly-ranked samurais acquiring the democratic freedom they longed for through the revolution against the unjust government system and its extremely unbalanced samurai-labeling system.

Here's a peek at the Ax2 Studio 1/6 scale Yojimbo 12-inch figure from the Saru tribe! NOTE: The following photos are not their final product, it's still 95% only! Interestingly enough, Inu seems to imply fox in the Japanese language while "Saru" is the Japanese word for monkey. So Yojimbo appears to be wearing a monkey mask (not sure if the mask is removable). Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures.

Ax2 debut product / figure, AX2 "Boom!" Series Collection #2 1/6th scale Rei (prototype clone) 12-inch action figure (reviewed HERE, HERE and HERE), seems to have garnered very positive responses which gives the company the confidence to go ahead with producing and releasing more 1/6 scale figures. That is a boon for us 12-inch figure collectors because we really need to have more of such figures other than the ones we have been getting / seeing. The more choices and options available, the better, right?

Certainly looking forward to this figure's release.

Incoming: ACI Toys ACI-14 A "Total Rome!" 1/6 scale Roman Legionary 12-inch action figure

At its peak the Roman army was probably the most effective fighting force in the ancient world. It conquered and maintained an empire that, by the 1st century CE, stretched from Britain to North Africa and from Spain to Egypt. At the heart of this formidable organization were the legionaries - tough professional infantry equipped with sword, shield and javelin. Equally dominant in pitched battles and in siege warfare, they were used to cow or destroy the enemies of Rome in campaigns of ruthless efficiency.

The Roman legionary's armor was a compromise between protection and mobility. Head, shoulders, and torso were well protected by the iron helmet and cuirass, but arms and legs were uncovered. Sometimes soldiers wore greaves to protect their legs and even flexible arm guards of overlapping plates. Although there was considerable uniformity in the appearance of the legions across the empire, especially in the 1st century CE, legions must often have been fitted out in a variety of different styles of armor and helmets. From ACI is coming this 1/6 scale Roman Legionary 12-inch action figure fitted with what he needs to do battle! Scroll down to see the pictures.

The design of the helmet was based originally on Gallic styles. It gave good protection to the legionary's cheeks and to the back of the neck. Helmets were fitted with a means of attaching a crest, but it seems that the ordinary legionary did not wear one in battle, so they were perhaps a feature of ceremonial parades.

Before charging the enemy, legionaries normally unleashed a terrifying volley of javelins (pila). At over 6 ft (2m) long, the pilum (javelin) was tipped with a heavy iron shank ending in a pyramidal spearhead.

The cuirass was body armor made of overlapping iron plates, articulated by means of leather straps and secured with brass fittings tied with leather thongs.

It may have weighed as much as 20 lb (9 kg) and for the armor to sit comfortably, there was probably some kind of padded lining worn underneath.

When a legionary was not wearing armor, it was his ornate belt (balteus) and apron of studded straps which hung from it that marked him out as a soldier. And when a legionary was given a dishonorable discharge, he was formally stripped of his belt.

At short range, the pilum (javelin) was capable of penetrating shields and armor. A spike at the butt end enabled soldiers to stand their javelins in the ground.

The legionary's durable, iron-nailed sandals were known as caligae (boots). They were all cut from a single piece of leather and joined at the top.

The short, pointed sword (gladius) was an effective stabbing weapon for fighting at close quarters from behind shields in well-disciplined ranks. It was the legionary's main weapon.

The curved rectangular shield with slightly rounded corners evolved in the 1st century CE. The iron boss (umbo) in the center served as an offensive weapon enabling legionaries to batter their way through their enemies' ranks.

I doubt the Roman legionary could fly through the air with his armor, shield and sword like those Chinese warriors or ninjas we see in television or on the big screen ;p

Legionaries also carried a dagger (pugio) worn at the left hip. What's missing is the soldier's marching pack which would have included his leather bag, blanket, woolen cloak, cooking pan, flask for water or wine, leather bag for personal possessions plus three days' rations.

Size comparison pics of some 12-inch action figures with Coo Model 1/6 scale Skeleton Soldier

continued from previous post...

Having reviewed the Coo Model 1/6 scale Skeleton Soldier HERE and HERE, how about some comparison pictures of Coo Model 1/6 scale Simulated Human Skeleton Soldier 12-inch figure with other 12-inch figures? Let's see how they stack up against each other? Size is always a bit of a concern in 1/6 scale. You want to know if the manufacturer got the scale and size right especially if you want to display all the figures together. A good example would be Darth Vader. He cannot be the same size / height as the Stormtroopers. That would be wrong. That's why Medicom Toys supposedly 1/6 scale Darth Vader was a big disappointment :( check out the comparison pics HERE

So how tall is the Coo Model 1/6 scale Simulated Human Skeleton Soldier figure and how does it look when placed together with other 12-inch action figures? Scroll down to find out the answer plus see size comparison pictures with ACI 1/6 Roman Gladiator "Flamma" 12-inch figure, Kaustic Plastik's 12-inch figures, HPC Toys Film series 12-inch figure and Hot Toys True Type TTM21 12-inch figure body.

First of all: Comparison pictures of Coo Model 1/6 scale Skeleton Soldier standing side-by-side with ACI 1/6 Roman Gladiator "Flamma" 12-inch figure and Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale "Celadus" Roman gladiator 12-inch figure. They do seem to come from the same period in history based on the sword that they are all carrying.

Both ACI 1/6 Roman Gladiator "Flamma" 12-inch figure and Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale "Celadus" Roman gladiator 12-inch figure were released in 2011 but I've never taken pictures of them side-by-side until now

Here's the Coo Model 1/6 scale Simulated Human Skeleton Soldier figure standing next to the Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale "Celadus" Roman gladiator 12-inch figure which was reviewed HERE in November 2011

And here are ACI 1/6 Roman Gladiator "Flamma" 12-inch figure and Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale "Celadus" Roman gladiator 12-inch figure standing side-by-side. ACI 1/6 Roman Gladiator "Flamma" 12-inch figure has been reviewed HERE and looks to be bigger than Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale "Celadus" Roman gladiator. Kaustic Plastik first released Roman gladiator figures appear to be smaller in size but they would soon correct this size issue

Here's the latest released Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale Athletik Muscle Body KP03B Caucasian version standing next to the 2011 released Kaustic Plastik 1/6 scale "Celadus" Roman gladiator. You can see how much bigger the 12-inch body is. NOTE: I switched the head of the Kaustic Plastik Athletik Muscle Body KP03B to a Hot Toys Chris Hemsworth Thor head sculpt. Got something planned but haven't quite gotten to it yet ;p

Last but not least, here's 12-inch Tony Stark figure with Coo Model 1/6 scale Skeleton Soldier. This particular Tony Stark figure was reviewed earlier HERE. Tony Stark has a customized 1/6 scale Light Up Arc Reactor (Iron Man Mark VI version seen in Iron Man 2 and The Avengers) on the latest Hot Toys 12-inch figure body – TTM21 Regular body. You can see all the pictures of the specially designed body HERE
