Comparison pictures of OE Killer Instinct Sam & Viola + Motoko, Deunan, Black Widow & Selina

Having reviewed OE (original effect) 1/6 scale killer instinct SAM 13" post-apocalyptic female figure in three parts previously HERE, HERE and HERE, I think it's time to make a comparison between OE Sam and OE Viola, as well as with other 1/6 scale female action figures (NOT dolls but I guess that's just a technicality). Guys don't want to be seen playing with dolls, that's for the gals and daughters. That's why the term "action figure" was coined for masculine man so that they can say it's OKAY to pose with their action figures - same same but different Haha

According to wikipedia: An action figure is a pose-able character figurine, made of plastic or other materials, and often based upon characters from a film, comic book, video game, or television program. These action figures are usually marketed towards boys and adult collectors. Barbie is very much a fashion doll, primarily designed to be dressed to reflect fashion trends and are usually modeled after teen girls or adult women. Sam and Viola aren't because they are designed with men in mind LOL

That explains why I don't have many female figures in my toy collection because I much prefer the rough and tumble kind of characters who can take a knock and keep on going, not implying durability but that the figures are action-oriented. As you can see, Viola is taller at 13.5 inches while Sam stands at 13 inches. Viola is the first figure released by OE (reviewed earlier in my toy blog HERE and HERE) and they must have rushed the production because the body sucks big time. She's what I would call "loose limbs" and her legs will just give up on her and fall off completely :(

Comparison pictures of VTS The Revenger 12-inch figure with Art Figures: SAVES "Punisher"

When the Art-Figures: SAVES "Punisher: War Zone" 1/6 scale Figure was first released, the quality caught a lot of people by surprise and many were left scrambling to get their hands on the 12-inch Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle the Punisher figure. Unfortunately, because the figure was produced based on pre-order numbers and not many people gave a thought of pre-ordering it, the production number was small and supply was limited when it came out. Thus the secondary market price of the Art-Figures: SAVES "Punisher: War Zone" figure began to rise very quickly and it became a holy grail for many collectors.

Fast forward to the present and DAM Toys (under their other brand name VTS for Virtual ToyS) just released their version of the 1/6 scale Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle the Punisher figure from the 2008 "Punisher: War Zone" movie and BAM! they certainly knocked this one out of the ballpark. This recently released VTS The Revenger figure is way better than the previously released and highly sought after Art Figures SAVES Punisher figure but hey, that's just my humble opinion.

What better way to bring a point across than to show pictures of both VTS The Revenger 12-inch figure with Art Figures: SAVES "Punisher" figure standing side-by-side and let you see and decide for yourself how different each figure is and which one is better. By the way, from what I hear, VTS The Revenger figure is already selling fast and some shops are already sold out of this figure so don't wait too long to get yours. As I've mentioned before, VTS The Revenger 12-inch figure has all the movie accurate 1/6 scale weapons which is a big plus and the quality is really good too.

Click on the pictures for bigger and better views. You can see how the same set-up can be done so differently and I'm certainly liking the newer version by VTS a lot. The sentimental me still will not let go of the Art Figures SAVES figure either haha they look great together

More pictures showing differences in articulation of 12-inch figures: Alpha/TrueType, X-Series etc

I've already shown comparison pictures of the various 12-inch figure body types in the previous post. Here are some more pictures to show how much better the articulation is on the X-Series 12-inch figure body compared to other brands such as Alpha Toys B001 Narrow Shoulders Bodies which are exact copies of Hot Toys TrueType TTM bodies, only cheaper AND Kaustic Plastik muscle bodies which represent the more muscular built body types that are also available in the 1/6 scale market.

As you can see, the way the X-Series 12-inch figure bodies are designed allow them to adopt some very nice and dramatic poses other 1/6 scale bodies cannot achieve. I like to show off the bodies by making them demonstrate a high flying jumping knee muay thai style because everything has to be compact and tight. Only the X-Series 12-inch figure bodies are able to achieve this pose

Whichever knee doesn't really matter. X-Series performed just fine :)

This is how the Alpha Toys B001 Narrow Shoulders Bodies which are exact copies of Hot Toys TrueType TTM bodies fare in the same pose. The knee cannot go as high and the body cannot bend as much as the X-Series

Muscle bodies fare much worse. Their bulkiness makes them too stiff

The elbows and knees bend much better when they are double-jointed but the torso and hips lose out in the case of the Alpha Toys B001 Narrow Shoulders Bodies / Hot Toys TrueType TTM bodies

Muscular bodies usually have forearms that can only bend 90 degrees. You can't really get dynamic poses with only 90 degree bends. That's the compromise for realism or realistic looking upper torsos and arms. You lose a lot of the articulation.

This side profile picture shows very clearly how much bend you can get from the X-series 12-inch Bodies

On a side note, I much prefer the clear figure display stands as opposed to the black ones because the clear ones give the impression / illusion of height. See my toy blog post HERE on the different type of stands available

Comparison of 1/6th scale 12-inch Action Figure Bodies: Hot Toys, X-Series etc - which is best?

Charlie's Angels these guys are NOT ;p I just wanted to do a quick comparison of some of the 12-inch male figure body types that are available in the 1/6 scale market and show which ones are the most articulated and which ones are lacking in articulation.

I'm only showing three types but they more or less represent what is available out there because a lot of the bodies out there are all very similar with the difference being only in the brand name and price. Alpha Toys B001 Narrow Shoulders Bodies are exact copies of Hot Toys TrueType TTM bodies except that they are much cheaper without compromise on quality. There are also the X-series 12-inch Bodies with a three-part upper torso. Last but not least, Kaustic Plastik muscle bodies represent the more muscular built body types that are also available.

Muscular bodies were created for the purpose of posing figures wearing short sleeve T-shirts, tank tops or just to go topless. They work well for gladiators and gladiator type kitbashes because you do not want to see the ugly joints which does not add realism to the figure. Some prime examples are Hot Toys The Expendables 2 1/6 scale Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross 12-inch Figure (reviewed HERE and HERE), Hot Toys "X-Men Origins" 1/6th scale Wolverine Collectible Figure posted HERE and Hot Toys 1984 T-800 Terminator Figure reviewed HERE. Gone are the days when Hot Toys produced bodies with seamless joint-lines i.e. joints hidden under skin which were much more realistic. Check out the Hot Toys 1/6 scale Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer 12-inch collector's edition figure HERE and Hot Toys 1/6 scale Collector's Edition Private Billy Sole 12-inch Action Figure posted HERE, both from the 1987 "Predator" film. The ULTIMATE 12-inch figure without visible joints has to be Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS114 1/6 scale "300" King Leonidas 12-inch collectible figure - check out my review HERE

Now let's get back to the 12-inch figures that are currently available for us to choose from.

To demonstrate how much articulation you can get from a 12-inch figure, I decided to pose all three of them doing the now famous "Iron Man" landing pose from the "Iron Man" movies. Only one figure could achieve the pose comfortably and that's the X-Series body figure, all thanks to the three-part upper torso.

The three-part upper torso allows the 12-inch figure body to be more flexible and bend much more than the other 1/6 scale bodies

Here's the Hot Toys 12-inch TrueType TTM male body trying to achieve the same pose. It just looks awkward and un-natural because it doesn't have the extra cuts and flexibility that the X-Series body has.

From this particular camera angle, it looks like it has achieved the required pose but as you can see from the pictures above, this is just a camera trick and the X-Series body wins hands down when it comes to flexibility and articulation.

Last but not least, here's the Kaustic Plastik muscle body attempting the same pose
